The period of dawn is when everything’s sonic and visual perception gradually awakens; what are segregated by the darkness, as memories, identities, and spacetimes, reset the associations between individuals and realities. Our imagination of interaction, society, life, and living readjusts since we open our eyes in the morning; whereas the newly-created social connections break up and overlap the original narrative space toward reality, influencing the way we think and act about the world.

Within the exhibition “Dawn Ranch , Concert Hall”, the works of several artists jointly construct a decentralised and unpredictable copy of the public environment; “Ranch” and “Concert Hall” are the structured metaphors to reflect the thinkings about environmental and sensory orders in contemporary respectively. An identity archival without dominance is formed by the absent information like herder, stage, creatures, wilderness, performer, audience, and staff. In such context, how to render, confirm, and evaluate the identities can only rely on what individuals experience and sense standing in front of the works. It is this elusiveness and uncertainty that might be able to reveal our dependence on realistic identity shaping based on experiences and circumstances, or dissolve the common loss and confusion on the sense of identity with the empowerment that has yet to come, or even does not exist.

At this dawn of “Ranch” and “Concert Hall”, as we try to build private projections through the sensory information that might be overlapping, blurred, peeling, ended, remaining, transient, and not so important... How will one’s identity be condensed in realities and memories by the distant times and discrete instants? As Kubler writes in “The Shape of Time: Remarks on the History of Things” that, “Actuality is when the lighthouse is dark between flashes: it is the instant between the ticks of the watch: it is a void interval slipping forever through time: the rupture between past and future: the gap at the poles of the revolving magnetic field, infinitesimally small but ultimately real. It is the void between events. It is the interchronic pause when nothing is happening. Yet the instant of actuality is all we ever know directly”.
